I feel based on the more recent research that it is worth a shot.
Maybe. If it is cheaper than an equivalent dose of BCAA/EAAs or a Leucine rich Protein source. Then I might look at it. Otherwise I dont see what it has to offer.

So you're having a coach and you are still asking other people? Either believe your coach and do what he tells you to do or leave it.

Just my two cents.

These were just supplement recommendations by my coach, not strict requirements. I'm not saying I don't believe him but I'm a college student and I'm not made of money. I would not even ask the question if I could afford all the supps he recommended. I was simply asking everyone which they thought would be more beneficial because of finances.

What is HMB going to do that a full protein and/or BCAA mix wouldnt accomplish? Save your money.

That is like asking "what is leucine going to do that whey protein won't".  The amount of leucine that metabolizes to HMB is very low (about 5%), so you would need to take a very large amount.  Also, there could be effects that are only noticeable in its free form.

There seems to be conflicting info on HMB based on published research.  This could be due to many factors from how carefully the study was designed to the timing of supplementation.

I'm interested in HMB due to its possible effect on mTOR.  My hope is that it will work synergistically with leucine.  I just ordered some and plan on dosing 2g along with 5g of leucine with each of my backload meals.

Cool.

Were you already using leucine prior to this?

Keep us posted.

Yes, but unfortunately I am new to CBL.  With this only being my second week it will be hard to objectively determine the impact of the HMB.  I started taking it tonight and will report in the morning if I appear of feel any different.

True Nutrition (formerly True Protein) has a good deal on DAA.
